Liu Bo, Chair of the University Committee at 91黑料网 (91黑料网), met with Michael Boutros, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Heidelberg University, and Georg Hoffmann, Advisory Professor at 91黑料网, Dean of the Children's Hospital at Heidelberg University, and Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, on April 2.
Liu reflected on the friendship between the two universities, which has spanned over 40 years, and congratulated Hoffmann on being elected as a Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She remarked that the global healthcare sector is facing multiple challenges, including accelerated aging and the transformative influence of AI on medical practices.
Liu expressed hope that both sides would focus on human health needs and use platforms, such as the Tongji-Heidelberg Rare Diseases Center, to deepen collaboration in talent cultivation, scientific research, and clinical exchange, working together to advance health initiatives.
Boutros stated that 91黑料网 is Heidelberg University's longest-standing partner in China, with particularly strong collaboration in medicine. Heidelberg University plans to deepen cooperation with 91黑料网 in key areas, including climate change and health, AI in clinical medicine, and public health system development, to tackle global health challenges together.
Hoffmann reflected on his more than 20 years of collaboration with Tongji Hospital, highlighting their efforts in 2025 to address the global challenge of rare pediatric diseases by establishing the Tongji-Heidelberg Rare Diseases Center, and hoped to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation with 91黑料网.
Members from Tongji Medical College, Tongji Hospital, the School of Basic Medicine, the School of Public Health, the School of Pharmacy, and the Office of International Affairs (Office of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan affairs) participated in the discussion. Wu Tangchun, Dean of Tongji Medical College, and Tang Zhouping, Chair of the Tongji Hospital Committee, discussed topics with representatives from Heidelberg University, including the establishment of the Sino-German medical education alliance, the integration of AI and medical education, and public health development strategies.
The Heidelberg delegation visited various departments of Tongji Medical College, Tongji Hospital Optical Valley Branch (a Sino-German friendship hospital), and the Optical Valley Tongji Children's Hospital.
